A new trailor to celebrate 1000 weeks of Aditya Chopra’s DDLJ

There had to be a befitting tribute when an iconic love story like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) celebrates 1000 weeks of continuous run. Yashraj Films has created a new trailer for the movie to mark this landmark achievement of the film at the box office.

Released on October 19, 1995, the Chopras’ magnum opus finished 19 years recently and since then the bosses at YRF have been busy planning a perfect tribute to the movie, which, like the trailer says, redefined love for generations of Indian movie lovers.

Such is the magic of DDLJ that Maratha Mandir, the single theatre in Mumbai where the film has been running daily shows since its release, still finds audience even today and supposedly enjoys crowds during weekends. While most of the audience has seen the film multiple times, it is the experience of watching the film on the big screen and being a part of an audience who connect on a common love – Bollywood, Shah Rukh-Kajol’s chemistry, the music of the film and the famous ‘Senorita’ dialogues.

On its release, DDLJ resurrected the Yash Raj banner and gave Shah Rukh Khan the identity of the ‘Romantic Hero’ archetype which he has played with aplomb and ease to this day. It also strengthed kajol’s position in the industry and its director, Aditya Chopra, became a force to reckon with in Bollywood. While Chopra made just one film after DDLJ (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, almost 15 years later) he still remains one of the most powerful and enigmatic figures in the industry.

YRF has planned to hold a special screening of the movie. Khan has been quoted saying, “Aditya Chopra was planning something…We will also watch the film together. There is lot of affection attached with the film. It’s a special moment for sure. It’s the second longest (running) film. I think the first was a Chinese film. Yes, we will have a celebration…” Khan is referring to Huang Zumo’s Lu Shan Lian, which has been running till date since its relase on 12th July, 1980. Lu Shan Lian is the longest running film in the world followed by DDLJ.

As a part of the celebrations, Shah Rukh and Kajol are expected to come for a special episode on Comedy Nights With Kapil. This will also be Kajol’s first ever appearance on any reality TV show. There are plans of celebrations at Maratha Mandir too.
