We all need a little cheering up from time to time (read: every Monday) and these Indian comedies will do just that! From silent comedies to one where the protagonist just can’t stop speaking about fake exploits, we’ve got your evening after work sorted.

Golmaal

While a lot of comedy films are based on confusion arising out of two people who look the same, this one has confusion arising out of Amol Palekar donning two different looks (he claims to have a twin brother) just to appease Utpal Dutt, who plays his boss. One brother is a diligent accountant who doesn’t do much for pleasure, while the other is a sports fanatic who just can’t miss a Mohun Bagan match.

Pushpak

A silent film starring Kamal Haasan, this film is about an unemployed young man who suddenly experiences a change-of-fortune when he finds a drunk industrialist lying down on the road and exchanges places with him. There’s humour in the most mundane of things, like waiting for one’s turn at a public toilet.

The Angrez

All dialogues of this film are in Hyderabadi Hindi, spoken around the Char Minar area and revolves around a man (Saleem Pheku) whose main skill is bragging. In one of the more popular scenes, he brags about how he met Mallika Sherawat (of Murder fame) in a posh hotel after applying an entire bottle of scent on himself.

Hera Pheri

A cult classic, this movie revolves around three people, all beaten down by fate and how their life changes after a kidnapper makes the mistake of calling their humble garage instead of the businessman whose daughter they have kidnapped.

Andaz Apna Apna

Based on the life of Amar and Prem, two unemployed men out on a mission to marry Raveena, daughter of the insanely rich Ram Gopal Bajaj. Through the 160 minutes, these men face a lot of confusion, mainly arising due to their own stupidity and Ram Gopal Bajaj’s evil gangster twin Shyam Gopal Bajaj (aka Teja).
