The OnePlus 2 smartphone is out – and it looks good

The improvements are incremental but significant

Last year, one of the surprise stories in the flagship smartphone game was the arrival of OnePlus. Spending virtually nothing on publicity, the startup successfully created a massive online buzz about its phone, the One, and it backed up the hype with an exceptionally well made product at an almost giveaway price. Rumour mills almost immediately went into overtime about how the company would top its first phone – and we now have the answers.

Using a unique Virtual Reality video as a launch device (its own cardboard VR viewers were made available online), OnePlus officially announced the OnePlus 2 this morning. Check out the important specs below:

-5.5-inch Full HD screen

-64-bit octacore Snapdragon processor

-4GB of RAM (3GB on the 16GB version)

-64GB/16GB of internal storage

-USB-C port (the plug is reversible and supports USB 3.1)

-A fast fingerprint scanner

-A sliding button on the side for quick access to notifications

-Android 5.1 with OnePlus’ own Oxygen OS on top

-13MP rear/5MP front cameras

-3300mAh non-removable battery

-Dual nano SIM slots with 4G

-Rs 24,999/Rs 22,999 for 64GB/16GB versions

As you can see, the specs are absolutely top notch, and the higher prices are thus justified, given that the 2 still undercuts other flagship smartphones by a large margin. The bad news is that OnePlus’ deeply annoying invite system is still in operation, so you’ll have to sign up on its website and social media feeds to receive one. The phone will begin selling in India exclusively on Amazon from 11th August.
