Volvo just launched the all-new XC90 – it’s premium 7-seater SUV renowned for it’s incredible utility value and its safety features. The new Volvo XC90 packs a whole new powertrain along with some seriously idiot-proof safety features.

The new XC90 that we get dispenses with large displacement engines and is available with a single 2.0 L 4-cylinder diesel engine option which makes 225 bhp and 48 kgm of torque. The car is available in two trims – the base version, dubbed the ‘Momentum’ starts at Rs 64.9 lakh while the top end ‘Inscription’ model will set you back by Rs 77.9 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Mumbai).

Now to the more exciting bits. Volvo say that this is their safest car yet, which is saying something since Volvo sits a good mile or two above most automotive manufacturers when it comes to road safety. The key feature in this car is called the ‘Run-off road protection feature’ – essentially, allowing the seatbelts to tighten up as soon as the car senses the lack of er… a road. It also packs seat frame cushions which reduce the impact of vertical forces that could damage the spine.

The interiors are brand new as well. The top-end version features speakers from Bowers & Wilkins along with a heads-up display and perforated seats. Both the variants feature a centre console with a large touch-screen interface, while packing all the safety features as standard. If you’re looking for the safest way to drop your kids to school, nothing short of a bulletproof motorcade comes close to this Volvo.
