What it takes to dress Ranveer Singh
What it takes to dress Ranveer Singh

The Dil Dhadakne Do star is known for his bold sense of style. His stylist Nitasha Gaurav throws some light on the clothes that make the man

Few men can pull off a marsala suit, a quirky print matching shorts and shirt and everything else in between like man of the moment Ranveer Singh, can. Easily one of Bollywood’s most stylish men, he knows a thing (or many) about wearing the clothes and not letting the clothes wear him. And while others may look almost comical in a lilac floral print blazer or toffee print shirt, Singh always leaves us wondering how he managed to pull that off. As has his stylist for three years, Nitasha Gaurav, has catered to his every whim and fancy.

We are seeing a lot of quirky prints on Ranveer Singh off late? What is the thought behind this?

Since we are in the middle of summer, we’ve worked with a lot of prints and patterns especially florals, this time. Ranveer’s current hair situation (or lack thereof!) and sharp moustache for his role as the virile Bajirao allowed us to juxtapose it with vivid florals for a great impact. He has also been wearing a lot of upcoming Indian designers this time. Masaba Gupta, Hemant& Nandita and Geisha Designs have even customized looks for him.

What are the key pointers you always keep in mind when styling Ranveer?

With Ranveer, we always push the envelope a little more. We call it the X+1 factor. While he looks amazing in classic and normcore looks, he really enjoys a touch of the whimsical, extraordinary and unexpected. The safe and conventional is not his thing. That’s exactly what we keep in mind while styling him. He lets us be adventurous and is always delighted to see something new. Ranveer loves fashion, really commits to the looks he wears and has a blast wearing whatever he’s dressed in.

Not many men can rock head-to-toe print like Ranveer can. What’s your advice for real men out there who want to ace a similar look?

If you wear it, commit to it. Enjoy it. Everyone may not love it, but if you do, that’s all that matters.

What is the actor’s go-to fail-safe look?

Safe is not Ranveer’s thing. The more unusual and fun the look is, the more likely he is to wear it.

Accessories — from an array of hats/caps to shoes have taken centre stage this time around. Tell us more about that.

Ranveer has always had varied hair for all his movies — from the sweet vintage look of Looteraand long hair and robust beard of RamLeela and Gunday to the coloured mop in KillDiland the bald look in Bajirao Mastani. We’ve always built looks around them by using different accessories. Ranveer has always been a hat person and has a big personal collection that includes every kind of hat. The same is true for shoes, watches and jewellery. We recently got him some vintage digital Casio watches from

Chor Bazaar, which he loves.

Which are your favourite looks from his current repertoire?

The Dhruv Vaish look in a Liberty print shirt with matching bow and plaid pants looked great on him as did the lilac Sailex look for the Dil Dhadakne Do brunch. The pale blue linen Theorem suit he wore over a customized Masaba shirt was another fun summer look. The Dior Homme shorts look was a kicker too.
