Amrut Distilleries Just Launched India’s Most Expensive Whisky

The Amrut Greedy Angels 12 YO – Chairman’s Reserve will cost you almost $1000 a bottle.

The award winning Amrut Distilleries commemorated their 12 years of presence in the international market by launching the Amrut Greedy Angels 12 YO – Chairman’s Reserve. Being the first 12-year single malt produced in India, this one is a limited release of about a 100 bottles and is priced at around $1000. This is also  India’s most expensive whisky so far, since the weather conditions in the country make the ageing of these malts difficult. The humid weather conditions add to about 10-12 per cent of whisky loss during the maturation period, in comparison to only 1-2 per cent in Scotland.

The new whisky is available in a specially designed package, comprising a 750 ml crystal decanter, bottled at 60 per cent ABV, with the name engraved in gold ink, along with two customised ‘Greedy Angels’ engravings on Glencairn tasting glasses.

Amrut Distilleries is of course renowned for its popular range of single malt whiskys, such as Amrut Fusion, Amrut Portonova and Amrut Spectrum, among others. The brand managed to turn global heads in the year 2010, when Jim Murray rated Amrut Fusion highly at 97/100 points, after which it was declared the ‘3rd finest whisky in the world’. According to Ashok Chokalingam, Senior GM – International Markets, the Amrut Greedy Angels 12 YO – Chairman’s Reserve “is a testament that Amrut can not just produce relatively younger good malts, but also slightly more aged malts that are just as good, if not better when compared to exceptional malts from Scotland and Japan”.
