One of the fundamental issues the country is facing these days is the water crisis that has hit a large part of India. The state of Maharashtra is one of the worst affected with water levels in dams hitting an all-time low. Several actors and renowned personalities have, therefore, come together to work closely with the drought-hit farmers of Maharashtra, so as to bring about some relief. Here are a few who have selflessly devoted their time and energy to combat the crisis and are trying to bring about a much needed respite.
Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure’s NAAM Foundation
Actor Nana Patekar and fellow Marathi actor Makrand Anaspure have actively been engaging with drought-hit farmers in order to bring about some relief through their organization, NAAM Foundation. This organisation is set-up in order to support the farmers of Maharashtra, providing financial assistance to them and their families. The foundation has already garnered Crores of Rupees from the initiative, enabling distribution among some drought-hit families in Osmanabad and Latur. This project is also aimed at youth employment in various parts of Maharashtra.
Akshay Kumar’s philanthropic ways
Akshay Kumar recently donated an amount of 50 Lakh Rupees towards a noble cause known as the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan, an initiative by the government of Maharashtra that aims to develop ponds and other water harvesting techniques, so as to enable drought-proof villages. In the past, Akshay Kumar has also donated a sum of 90 Lakhs to the families of farmers who had committed suicide.

Cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has also set an example for fellow colleagues to come forward during these distressing times and help those in need. He donated Rs 5 Lakh to the Chief Minister Drought Relief Fund in order to help the farmers of Maharashtra. This decision, he says, was inspired by his grandmother who still works in the farm, even though she is 92 years old.
