Marjane Satrapi’s new directorial venture will leave you pausing for breath

The international film will star Dhanush in the lead role

French-Iranian director and graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi is slated to direct an adaptation of novelist Romain Puertolas’ bestselling novel ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe’. No this isn’t a parodic take on the bestselling ‘Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’.  The title, although self-explanatory, is based on the tale of a fakir from a small village in India and his misadventures caused by his deceptive attempts at success. The fakir aims to make a pilgrimage to IKEA, where he intends to acquire a bed of nails that’ll cement his reputation as a holy man. The script is co-written by the author and screenwriter Luc Bossi.

What’s interesting is that the South Indian movie star Dhanush has been selected for the role of the fakir, while the other English speaking roles are being cast at the moment. Satrapi’s other works include the Ryan Reynold’s starrer The Voices, Chicken With Plums and Persepolis – which is based on her own autobiographical graphic novel.
