Mumbai gets ready to party all night

Police Commissioner’s approval to allow restaurants, bars and pubs to serve all night definitely calls for a celebration.

Mumbai’s nightlife is all set to get out of its grave for the first time after the 1992 riots, as Police Commissioner, Rakesh Maria, clears the proposal to allow restaurants, bars and pubs to be open for as long as they want. Mumbai Mirror reported that, “Maria gave his nod to the proposal late last month with just one rider – the nightspots must not be located in residential areas. He also shot down the idea of allowing malls to remain open through the night.” But this allowance does not apply to pubs and bars located in residential areas.

This brings a lot of relief and happiness to not just the establishment owners, but also to individuals who always wanted to dance the night away, longer than the usual 1 30 AM curfew. The idea of an open-all-night Mumbai was first initiated by Yuva Sena’s Aditya Thackeray last year. We are definitely excited with the news, but let’s hope that the police and the city can stay safe enough for party goers, especially women.
