She
lashed through the waves in her famous bikini opening
in Qayamat. She shook the scene with her bold portrayal
of a prostitute in Julie, a role that not many actresses
would dare to do. And yet, there is something very real,
very tangible about Neha Dhupia. Something about the
way she is happy. Yes, her career is on an upswing-her
last release, Chup Chupke has set the cash registers
ringing. Life couldn't get better for this 26-year old
from Delhi's Jesus and Mary College-a doting family,
great friends, and a list of impressive films under
her belt. She is almost a whiff of fresh air in a world
of anorexic women-her ultra feminine persona, seductive
smile, a head screwed firmly on her shoulders. Charming,
attractive, humorous almost to the point of being slightly
crazy-that's Neha. Is there more to her than meets the
eye? After four sleepless nights, she is still at her
wittiest best as she reveals all
Neha's
Good, Bad and Ugly Side ...
I can't decide whether to be modest or fake! Okay let
me choose the middle level. Can I call myself confident?
Yeah! I'm an honest person for sure. I'm also very real,
passionate, and practical. Now this is getting too goody
goody. Let me see what my bad qualities are. I can be
quite mean at times. I have a wicked sense of humour.
I'm also a control freak. Now, that's really bad. And
yes, I have a bad memory. My friends can vouch for that!
My Sex Appeal...
It's somewhere between my head and my navel. My brains!
Love or lust...
Love is more fun, the rest just follows. It's part of
the package!
A Man Making a Pass at Me...
It depends on who the guy is and what sort of a pass
he makes at me. But I wouldn't react violently as I'm
not an aggressive person by nature. But I enjoy flirting.
It's healthy. I flirt without making it obvious; by
playing hard to get. Most of the men I know have been
my friends for years. They treat me like a buddy, so
it's not such a great deal. Guys who don't know me react
differently. But at times I tend to ignore them or never
really notice them. It's convenient. There is a guy
who follows me around all the time. He's about seventeen
and I keep bumping into him every time I go to Dubai.
He follows me everywhere and tells me that he's a great
fan of mine.
My
Kind of Man...
He has to be liberated and understand the demands of
my profession. A good sense of humour is very important.
His looks are not important at all. How long can I look
at him! I've studied in a convent school so my interaction
with guys has always been at clubs but they've never
been an integral part of my life. I'm not a romantic
person at all, I'm more of a practical person. I've
always been a sucker for the chocolate-boy looks but
now that seems scary. Now I've grown up and elevated
from boys to men
What do I Notice First in any Man...
It sounds very clichéd but it's his shoes. It
says a lot about a man's personality
Wooing The Man I Fancy...
It depends on how intense the attraction is. I don't
think it's such a bad thing to woo a man, what with
this whole thing about women's lib! I'd start with a
great conversation and then wait and watch. But I'd
never dress up to woo him. I dress for a living, it's
never an incentive for me. I'm a very casual dresser,
off camera. I dress to impress myself. I want to redeem
myself in my own eyes. I like being myself. What you
see is what you get, as far as I'm concerned.
My Dream Date...
I'm a very outdoorsy person so it would preferably be
somewhere close to the beach. I'd love to be dressed
in my pajamas and chappals and there should be great
food around.
My Most Romantic Meal of the Day...
Breakfast is the most romantic meal of the day for me.
It gets more romantic when my man cooks for me. I love
hot scrambled eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Making
the most of each day...
When I'm not working, I love to work out, travel, read
a bit, watch lots of films, and learn how to cook. I'm
passionate about food. I love chicken. So I try to cook
a variety of chicken dishes and salads. But I make sure
they're high in nutrition and low in fat. Since I live
alone, I'm the guinea pig for all my culinary experiments
(laughs). I enjoy travelling. There's so much to explore
everyday and I want to make the most of each day. I
don't believe in saving up and travelling later in life.
I've been to Australia, enjoyed my trips to Morocco,
France, and London. But my all time favourite holiday
spot in India is Goa. The last time I went there was
two years back on New Year's Eve with a bunch of friends.
I love walking down the familiar streets of Goa. Everyone
is so friendly there. But you know what I enjoy doing
best? I just like to be!
The
Real Neha Dhupia...
It feels nice when people tell me that I'm real.. It's
my most cherished compliment. I hear it almost everyday
and it feels good to know that I'm still grounded. It's
so easy to get carried away in this industry. I'm quite
mad. Definitely a friend's friend. I love my parents,
am a homely person and quite reserved too. Very chilled
out, beyond a point I like to be disconnected from things
and people. I'm not a party person at all but love having
friends over and cooking for them. I can satisfy a starving
man, pun unintended.
The Books and Films I Enjoy...
I've never read non-fiction. I read a lot of fiction,
mostly recommendations by friends. Presently I'm reading
Kite Runner by Khalid Husain. Now that I'm getting more
and more involved with cinema I make it a point to watch
all kinds of films; Indian and foreign. I'm not very
clued into old Hindi films but am in touch with contemporary
cinema. I feel it's heading in a practical direction.
Marriage and Kids...
I'd want to see myself a wiser person and a more experienced
and successful actress. Maybe married too! Although
my work is my focus right now, I'd like to get married
some day and have kids. I want to balance my personal
and professional life.
