When
you are credited with making one of the most stylish,
progressive films of its time, it can be seen as
a reflection of the director’s style sensibilities.
And that Farhan Akhtar has plenty of. With Dil Chahta
Hai, he brought a cool and hip style sensibility
to the fore, an extension of his young, urban personality
that is reflected in his collection of quirky T-shirts
and comfort fit jeans. “I am a T-shirt man
who likes the idea of being as comfortable as possible,”
says Akhtar, as he deconstructs his rather simplistic
personal style. But put him in a bandhgala or an
Armani suit and the 35-year-old will show you how
sophistication becomes Farhan Akhtar, a side of
him that he showed us with his snazzy version of
the cult film Don. But it is not just his clothes
that make him über stylish, it is the entire
package. His bandanas and Rastafarian hats go perfectly
with his whimsical hairstyles (thanks to his hairstylist
wife Adhuna) that can wary from shoulder length
curls to a buzz cut to a bald pate. But probably
the thing he wears best is his attitude that makes
him stand out in the crowd… with style on
his side.
