Konkona
Sen-Sharma's natural-to-the-core rendition of Iago's
(Saif Ali Khan) wife, Indu, in her barely 10-minute
on-screen role in Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara was so good
that even Shah Rukh Khan reserved his very rare "You're
quite good" praise only for her. And mind you,
he said that to Konkona at Kareena Kapoor's private
screening.
Coco, as Konkona is affectionately called, is this generation's
Shabana Azmi. Fiery, natural, subtle and real, she can
be anything. Blessed with the gift of picking up correct
accents, she is as believable as the Tamil-speaking
Mrs Iyer as she is as a UP housewife, Indu.
In fact, within the space of a few weeks, Aparna Sen's
daughter has delivered two top class
performances. She's as authentic as the unsure, newly-wedded
Tilottima in Naseeruddin Shah's directorial venture
Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota as she is in Omkara. And not to
forget her brilliant performance in the wife-swapping
tale Mixed Doubles a few months ago.
In just four years, she has amassed quite an impressive
body of work-Mr and Mrs Iyer, Amu, Page 3, 15 Park Avenue,
Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota, Mixed Doubles and Omkara. From
here, she can only get better. Can't wait for her next
one!
