MOTOROLA
RAZR V3I
The RAZR V3i has the distinction of being the
second phone from Motorola to include iTunes music
software after the ROKR E1. Again, there is a limit
on the number of songs you can sync with iTunes
- this time it's a 100-song restriction, up from
50 on the ROKR. You can get around the iTunes 100-song
limit on the V3i by using a separate Java-based
player that Motorola pre-installs on the phone.
But, then, what's the point of having iTunes? The
company has also failed to include a standard 3.5mm
headphone jack, so you'll need to use the included
headphones. The phone includes a dedicated iTunes
key but there are no external music controls.
What we love about this phone, though, is that it
retains V3's original design and shape and adds
13.5 MB of onboard storage, a microSD memory slot,
iTunes compatibility and a 1.23 megapixel camera.
And it's now available in maroon, violet or dark
blue.

SAMSUNG
SGH-E770
Far cheaper and less advanced than the 3GB i300,
the SGH-E770 boasts expandable memory, stereo Bluetooth
and dedicated music keys in a straightforward clamshell
shape. This slim and light GSM phone sports a 1.3
megapixel camera (with flash), TV output, EDGE data,
speaker-independent voice control, a web browser
and email client, plus, of course, Java support
and speakerphone.

SAMSUNG
SGH-i300
Samsung's first GSM phone with a hard drive,
SGH-i300 can store 3GB of music and other content
on its hard drive. This Windows Mobile Smartphone
has extensive music features, including built-in
stereo speakers in addition to a digital audio-out
connector, stereo Bluetooth, and a scroll wheel.
Other key features include a QVGA display, microSD
card slot, 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, voice
dialling, and speakerphone. What we miss, though,
are dedicated controls for music - using the phone's
buttons for selecting and managing tracks is tedious.
Price: Rs 31,000

XPHONE
IIm
This one may not be the smartest smartphone
around, but it's definitely built for entertainment.
Running on the somewhat outdated Microsoft Windows
Mobile 2003 Smartphone Edition software, it manages
the usual phone functionality as well as PDA-style
applications. The IIM also features an integrated
VGA camera, a 64K TFT screen, supports audio/video
playback and a wide range of wireless standards.
It has dedicated music control buttons on the front
of the handset and comes with stereo earphones.
The phone sports 64MB of internal memory and comes
bundled with a hopelessly inadequate 32MB miniSD
card, making an upgrade as inevitable as death.
Price: Rs 24,000

ERICSSON W710i
Sony Ericsson moves into rugged territory with the
sporty W710i. Targeted at the fitness freaks-it
also comes with an integrated pedometer, some nifty

Aside from this sporty avatar, the phone's essentially
a jazzed-up version of the W300i - the other clamshell
in the Walkman range. Fitted with a music player
and a bundled 512MB Memory Stick Micro card which
holds around 6 hours of MP3 music, the W710i also
offers a stereo FM radio, as well as a 2 Megapixel
camera, EDGE support for high-speed data transfers,
Bluetooth for connecting (mono) headsets and more.
