Microsoft
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
For those of you who do not already know this, the Microsoft
Windows Media Center Edition OS is a specialised version
of Windows XP meant for home theater PCs. While it's
similar to the regular Windows XP, its graphical interface
is built around a 10-foot interface concept. This means
that the computer should be usable by someone standing
at least 10 feet away from the display.

Media
Center Extender
Windows Media Center Extender devices are used to
connect Home Theater PCs with other TV screens in
the home, extending Media Center experiences to
any room in the house. You'll just need to purchase
an Extender for each screen you want to be able
to share files with. So if you are watching The
Star Wars on your HTPC and your toddler wants to
watch his favourite Elmo episode recording (that's
stored on the HTPC), you can simply let him watch
it in another room using the Media extender device. |
 |
Sync
to Device
MCE 2005 also now lets you share content with new
handhelds and smart phones. You can copy a sitcom
to your cellphone, for example, to watch during
your morning commute. |
