Economic
liberalisation and globalisation
in the last ten years has
changed our lives in ways
most people would not have
imagined. Rising income
surpluses, changing work
culture, investment bankers,
cable television, post-
Nehru family eras politics,
software exporters, Coke,
Pepsi, McDonald's, the Internet,
Jet Airways, Shah Rukh Khan,
Laloo Yadav and cell phones
have all helped churn the
1990's into a whirlwind
of a decade. Urban Indians
were forced to free their
minds, broaden their horizons
and become in many ways,
global citizens.
With the WTO, Palmtops and
Internet telephony breathing
down our necks, the next
decade promises to be even
more cataclysmic. And at
the centre of all this is
the modern Indian urban
male---responsible for all
this change and yet irrereversibly
transformed by it. As he
strives to adjust, adapt
and enjoy--both work and
leisure---and prepares to
take on the challenges of
a new century we think he
would do well with some
help to lead his life to
its fullest. Man's World
is a magazine that provides
this help as a friend, philospher
and guide.
