BBC’s Sherlock goes back to the Victorian Era

Benedict Cumberbatch is smoking a pipe. We’re giddy with excitement.

It’s official. BBC One has just announced the their hit TV series Sherlock would be returning to the screens for a one-off Christmas special featuring the revered duo of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, only this time the super sleuth and his sidekick will be heading back to their point of origin – the Victorian era.

 

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Steven Moffat said “We discovered there was some precedent for doing Sherlock in the Victorian era,” executive producer Steven Moffat said. “When we first did Sherlock, press asked how can Sherlock possibly survive in world with an iPhone? and when doing the Victorian, the press came in and said how can he do this without his iPhone? […]It’s very much the show you know. It’s the Sherlock as you know it, but in the correct era. It’s one of the best ones we’ve made. I think it’s really terrific.” We share his sentiment. It’s going to be a very merry Christmas.
