Tinder aims to make India one of its core markets

Tinder has proven to be a huge phenomenon in India – it’s no surprise given that 50% of the population is under 25 years of age. According to a report in Quartz India, Tinder CEO San Rad says that India is set to be one of their core markets, which is why they have opened their first international office in the country’s capital – New Delhi.

Tinder has gotten a lot of involvement from women in India, who have traditionally been known to avoid dating apps in a country that has a rather uneasy relationship with the concept of dating. Tinder has also appointed an Indian IIT-Delhi and Harvard graduate, Taru Kapoor as its India head after seeing a huge surge in activity late last year. With millions of swipes per day, the app sees more interactions per match in India than in any other country – whether that always works in favour of users is another thing altogether. Tinder plans to permeate through the suburban India, tracking users in and tier-II cities. According to sources, Tinder also aims to benefit from India’s expertise in technology and software, while benefiting from an extraordinarily large user base.
