Three more additions to Harley-Davidson’s brawny lineup

It might surprise you to know that Harley-Davidson is the largest selling premium motorcycle brand in India (in the 500cc and above category), but the folks at H-D India don’t really seem to make too much of it. “Every Royal Enfield and Bajaj Avenger buyer in India is a future Harley-Davidson customer” says Anoop Prakash, top hog at H-D India. He was speaking at the launch of three motorcycles – the Breakout, the Street Glide Special and the CVO Limited.

The Breakout will be assembled in India, and the latest in the Softail lineup of H-D bikes gets a hidden rear suspension, a swish paint job and a price tag of Rs 16.28 lakh, which should help it do some swift sales numbers.

The Street Glide Special is a tourer, with a 103 cubic-inch engine. You get features like linked-ABS, luggage panniers, a 6.5-inch infotainment system and dual halogen headlamps, along with a price tag of Rs 29.7 lakh.

If you’re in the mood to buy a motorcycle for BMW 5 Series money, then the CVO Limited is the beast for you. At a price of Rs 49 lakh, it’s the most expensive bike on sale in the country. H-D’s Custom Vehicles Operation (CVO) unit puts it together, and it isn’t exactly small, or lacking in features – a large LCD display, two speakers and, er, four clocks are among the doodads you’ll get in return for your ill-gotten. The seats are luxuriously kitted out, and plenty of storage space means that this is probably the ultimate two-up touring motorcycle in India. Start your chequebooks, then.
