The Australian Open starts tomorrow, and that’s reason enough for us to set our alarm clocks to an hour earlier than what our waking up time is usually. It’s going to be exciting, and we hope to see many exciting matches. Last year, we were treated to an epic five-set final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and we are sure that there are similar epic match-ups in store.
The Return Of Djokovic
Djokovic’s back and he loves playing the Australian Open more than anyone, since he’s won the title six times. His elbow injury made sure that he had a nightmarish 2017, but Djokovic is hoping that his injury behaves itself on his return to the court. Will he make it seven? You can never say, since Djokovic is made of the finest steel and is a champion who knows all about making a comeback.
Will The Federer-Nadal Rule Continue?
Based on last year’s grand slams performances, people are expecting either of the two to win this tournament. But Federer doesn’t think he is the favourite. “I play down my chances just because I don’t think a 36-year-old should be a favourite of a tournament,” he said in an interview.
“I feel like maybe somebody like a Rafa, with the year that he’s had, and Novak, with the six titles he’s had here, even if it’s unknown how he’s feeling, they could very well be the favourites too,” he added.
Will Grigor Dimitrov’s Form See Him Win His First Slam?
Grigor Dimitrov finally came of age in the ATP World Tour Finals last year, and if he can keep up that level of tennis, he’ll be an extremely hard man to beat. If we get good enough returns, we’d even bet on him.
Can Alexander Zverev Come Of Age?
Even though Zverev has all the shots in the book, and has been touted to be a future World No. 1, his performance in Grand Slams has been shambolic to say the least. That said, this Grand Slam will give him an opportunity to prove his naysayers wrong, and prove to the world that he can withstand the pressure of five-setters on the biggest stage.
An Unexpected Grand Slam Champion?
Like Kevin Anderson reached the finals of US Open last year, we know that the situation on the men’s circuit is highly unpredictable. Any player who finds his top game during the tournament can win, and we might even see an old horse like Juan Martin Del Potro make it deep. Or maybe someone like a Pablo Carreno Busta, who is an extremely stylish player in our opinion. We’ll have to wait and watch.
