BTS has been added to the performer lineup at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, where they will give the debut television performance of their upcoming English-language single Butter on May 23.
The K-pop group will remotely perform from Korea and is also a finalist in four categories at the show: top duo/group, top song sales artist, top social artist and top-selling song for their Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit Dynamite. BTS could win their fifth consecutive award in the top social category, which is currently open for fan voting.
Last year, the South Korean group performed Dynamite at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, remotely from Soth Korea. Some of the other performers include The Weeknd and P!nk, who is set to receive Icon Award honouring record-breaking artists and their impact on music. This week, it was also announced that Drake is the Artist Of The Decade. The Scorpion rapper has broken a number of Billboard chart records, including having the most tracks in the top 10 of the Hot 100 songs chart. Drake first made his appearance on a Billboard chart in 2009 with his debut studio album, Thank Me Later, which debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart the following year.
BTS premiered a video of a slab of melting butter, accompanied by sizzling sounds on YouTube, a little bit of teaser for their upcoming second English single.
Anticipating the upcoming release, the BTS ARMY has been actively showing their support for Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Constantly viewing the animated butter video, the visual has now amassed over 15 million views. The visuals featured an animated cube of butter which slowly melts over the course of an hour. A reverse countdown timer runs in the right corner, with kitchen noises playing in the background. The second English-language single is expected to release May 21.
