US President, Donald Trump, has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2021 for his role in a deal between Israel and United Arab Emirates, news reports have stated.
Trump was nominated by Norwegian parliamentarian Christian Tybring-Gjedde, to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. In a statement to Reuters, Gjedde said it was for Trump’s contribution for peace between Israel and the UAE. “It is a unique deal,” he added.
Israel and the UAE struck a deal on August 13 to normalise their relations, and announced that they were establishing full diplomatic relations. It’s considered to be a rather historic deal towards peace in the middle eastern nations, which also was announced by Trump.
Former US President Barack Obama had won the prize in 2009. The winner for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo, on October 9.
