The Italian supercar manufacturer has now unveiled two new limited-editions, V12-powered 812 Competizione, based on the 812 Superfast. Alongside the Competizione, there’s also the 812 Competizione A, a limited-edition Targa-top version for those who love open-air motoring.
Both the 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A are powered by a naturally-aspirated 12-cylinder engine, which produces a massive 830 horsepower and 692Nm of torque. This 6.5-litre V12 has been heavily re-engineered compared to the unit used on the 812 Superfast. With a revised intake system and reduced internal friction, it now revs to a stratospheric 9,500rpm. Redesigned cylinder heads, new titanium con-rods (40 per cent lighter than the steel used earlier), diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the piston pins for reduced internal friction, and a lighter, rebalanced crankshaft, all come together to provide uprated performance.
The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which provides rapid-fire shifts for relentless momentum. The 812 Competizione can accelerate from zero to 200kph in 7.5 seconds, and is capable of a top speed of more than 340kph.
The induction and exhaust noises that a Ferrari makes are an integral and delightful part of the driving experience, and with the Competizione duo, the company has paid particular attention to optimising the acoustics; watch the car in action on Ferrari’s official YouTube channel to experience the soundtrack. Other notable bits on the car include carbon fibre wheels, Ferrari’s first ever use of independent four-wheel steering, which offers improved steering response and cornering grip at high speeds, and improved electronics, including revised traction control, side slip control, and magnetorheological suspension control systems.
Ferrari will build only 999 units of the Competizione and 599 units of the Competizione A, priced at 500,000 euros (Rs 4.43 crore) and 580,000 euros (Rs 5.13 crore), respectively. Get your orders in now, because both cars are expected to be a sellout.
