Hermes flagship store reopened few days ago after it had been on lockdown with most retail stores in China for several months due to coronavirus pandemic.
According to WWD, Hermès made at least 2.7 million, in sales on the reopening day. According to multiple sources, this is possibly the largest one-day revenue total for a single boutique in China. On social media platforms Weibo and Xiaohongshu, shoppers in the capital’s province of Guangdong were seen shopping at the luxury store. The store included rare bags including a diamond-studded Himalayan Birkin, which was particularly shipped to the location. The customers further proceeded to purchase tableware, shoes, furniture and leather goods.
The 5,500 square-foot Hermès store is located in Guangzhou. This city is in Guangdong, one of China’s wealthiest mainland provinces and its most populous. This is a much-needed boost for the luxury industry that has taken a hit due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
According to CEO Axel Dumas, the disruption hit “an important country for our industry at an important time.” He further added that standalone stores like Hermès in Guangzhou are doing better than locations in malls because people are still are cautious of mass gatherings.
