Historically, luxury brands have stayed far away from the consignment and resale conversation. Some were wary of counterfeit goods while others believed that it wouldn’t be good for their brand. And then there were others who questioned the trend altogether, wondering whether secondhand shopping would indeed take off.

 

Not only has secondhand shopping taken off, but it has also flown far out into space. The RealReal currently has more than 17 million users. According to media reports, the resale market is expected to grow up to $64 billion by 2025 from its current valuation of $28 billion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And now, one of the world’s most iconic brands is partnering with The RealReal in a historic move.

 

Gucci has announced a multi-prong partnership with TRR which will include a Gucci e-shop among other things. That’s not all – there is also a sustainability angle to it. For every Gucci item purchased or sold, TRR will plant a tree through One Tree Planted, a nonprofit working on global reforestation.
