In spite of clashing with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1, the movie has had a decent run so far
Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan’s Vikram Vedha has hit the theatres today. While it’s been a while since fans saw Roshan in a full-fledged action movie, the release also marks Bollywood’s nawaab’s comeback after Bunty Aur Babli 2. In spite of clashing with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1, the movie has had a decent run so far.
The storyline, as the name suggests, is based on the classic Indian folklore Vikram Betaal, created in a modern context. Khan plays the role of the good cop Vikram, and Roshan as Vedha, is a gangster on the loose. It is a Hindi remake of Pushkar-Gayathri’s Tamil film, with the same name, which was released in 2017.
The audiences have flocked to the theatres to see these men in action and here’s what they said:
Roshan was last seen in War in 2019 with Tiger Shroff, which was again a full action-packed film. Initially, Shah Rukh Khan was approached for this role but it is believed that King Khan passed on the offer. R. Madhavan was approached for the role next. However, due prior commitments, the actor wasn’t roped in either. Fast forward to now, and the movie sees Roshan and Khan sharing screen space yet again, for the second time, after 2002’s Na Tum Jaano Na Hum.
In an interview, Roshan opines how content creators, film makers, and audiences should focus on Indian folklore as well. “To take something like this that we have all heard in our childhood and create this entire story of Vikram Vedha and to use it as a device, it’s so sharp. We have so many such stories in our mythology and folklore. I think we need to re-look at this treasure, there’s so much fodder in there from a storytelling point of view,” he said.
A statement released by the director-duo read: “What intrigues us as directors is that our mythology or folklore majorly have no demarcation about who is wrong or right. As creators, it’s refreshing to install the stories that are in the grey zone.”
