Robert Downey Jr. loves his classic cars, and especially loves working with SpeedKore to customise the car to his liking. This time, the two worked together to revamp his 1974 BMW 3.0 CS.
But SpeedKore faced a challenge with the German-built vehicle, as the shop mostly works on American muscle cars. But eventually RDJ with the vintage beemer of his dreams.
“When [Robert] came to us to restore the BMW, we instantly said yes and were excited by the opportunity to diversify our portfolio of vehicle builds with an iconic European vehicle. The great part about working with Downey is he actively participates in the styling of the vehicle and the final product reflects his unique style through and through,” said SpeedKore in a statement.
Apart from the carbon fiber accents and unique woodgrain moulding, your eyes are immediately drawn to the stunning, custom HRE C109 forged three-piece wheels. On the inside, the woodgrain pattern continues from the steering wheel to the dash. The seats are finished in a coffee-brown colour, and RDJ specifically asked to discard the backseats to make room for a luggage rack.
But the highlight of RDJ’s BMW is what sits under the hood. The original carbureted M30 3.0-liter inline-six has been replaced with a naturally aspirated S38 inline-six line from the E34-generation M5. The new engine pushes the car’s power to 311 horses.
This marks the third collaboration between RDJ and SpeedKore. The actor previously worked with the shop on his 1970 Mustang Boss 302 and the 1967 Chevy Camaro he gifted his friend and cast-mate Chris Evans.
