With sustainability being the highlight in fashion for the last couple of years, Tod’s latest initiative is linked to the recovery of unused materials that bring out the upcycled in its best form.
Tod’s has unveiled its newest Mosaic collection. The bags honour traditional Italian craftsmanship and sustainability by bringing in a new life into what was once unused material. Each piece from this collection is unique and the limited edition pieces are handmade with traditional techniques.
The collection includes classic patchwork shopping totes and pouches made from unused materials recovered from its factory, so you not only look good but feel good while you twirl around your bag. The Italian fashion house also added a selection of lifestyle home accessories made from the same upcycling process to spread out the sustainable living initiative at your homes.
Mosiac defines the value of brand – such as manual skills, creativity and focus of the Italian lifestyle combined with the environmental awareness that’s much needed in today’s world. It draws creative elements from materials by giving them a new life that would have remained useless otherwise, by transforming them into sustainable accessories and objects and redefining the timeless element.
Another addition to the Mosaic collection is a creative project based on the same values as Tod’s Mosaic, titled Artcycling, which is brought to life through unique sculptures fabricated by American artist Willie Cole. Celebrating Tod’s Mosaic initiative, the artwork aims to shed light on the innovation, creativity and craft linked to recovered, materials with a patchwork technique seen on a series of handbags. Through a series of powerful imagery, the brand has showcased this creative project.
In a collaboration with the fashion house’s craftsmen, Cole has created a series of sculptures using production leftovers and transforming them into prime materials. Cole has created sculptures made from recycled leather and semi-finished products from the brand’s factories, which was unveiled at Tod’s Boutique Milan Montenapoleone. The Artcycling exhibition will subsequently travel between Paris, London, New York and Miami.
Inspired by the Italian women in leather and shoe factories who handmade grocery bags using overstock materials, the Mosaic collection aims to bring the repurposing of all raw materials and transforms them into new sustainable items.
The collection is available to shop on the brand’s online website.
