When it comes to Bollywood, the lead actor (and Amitabh Bachchan) is considered God. From time immemorial (don’t we love clichés?), mainstream Hindi cinema has always been actor-oriented. While feminists always simmered and ranted about that, recent trends have seen a slight change. Vidya Balan is hailed as a ‘hero’ now and Mardaani and Revolver Rani has made it clear that our actresses have enough gall and gutso to shoulder a film and ensure box office returns.
Joining that hallowed bunch is the Anushka Sharma-Neil Bhoopalam starrer, NH10 (set to release on March 6). If the trailer is anything to go by, Anushka not only has one of the meatiest roles of her career, but she also is the ‘hero’ of the film. Watch her roll in muck and grime and smash some heads with steel rods – total badass, super cool. Another film that we can’t wait to watch is Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Produced by YRF and starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, the film is about a small-town lad who is married off to an overweight girl and then has to – literally – carry the weight of the relationship on his shoulders. Intrigued? Take a sneak peek of the film because we don’t want to ruin the surprise for you. Size doesn’t matter – finally a film that is strong enough to make the statement.
