Even as New York City expects the reopening of certain businesses, MTV has announced that they are looking into holding the VMAs on the 30th of August this year, reports Variety.

“We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center on August 30th,” an MTV rep told the publication. “The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”

The publication goes on to report that MTV sent out save-the-date notices to certain agents and reps and indicated that it’ll host the VMAs in its traditional format with awards and performances.

In the age of the novel coronavirus, it seems unlikely that the VMAs could continue to be hosted the way it has been due to social distancing but we’ll know more soon.
