A delegation from the Hindi film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the myriad issues plaguing the industry. Director and producer Karan Johar, actors Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn and other notable film folks like Prasoon Joshi, Rakesh Roshan and Ronnie Screwwala were part of the aforementioned delegation.
The Prime Minister shared a photo of the meeting on the microblogging site, Twitter with the caption: “Had an extensive and fruitful interaction with a delegation from the film and entertainment industry. The delegation spoke about the strides being made by the film and entertainment industry, and gave valuable inputs relating to GST for their sector.”

However, what caught Twitter’s eye was that not one woman was included in the meeting. Issues like gender parity and female representation have been big takeaways from the #MeToo revolution but it appears that in India, things haven’t changed much.
Would be great to have female representation in these delegations. It is 2018. https://t.co/HoxGbptgwX

Even after #MeTooIndia, no one cared to include even one woman in the delegation. https://t.co/khSQ2g3Egh

More proof that reinforces we need affirmative action. Clearly women are not even on invite lists. Forget bottom of the lists. https://t.co/ZpvCSMbmjX

Remarkable that even in an industry which actually has enough women, no woman in this delegation. https://t.co/vOai0UQGhU

PTI reports that Bollywood’s contribution to the exchequer and fiscal growth and the issues faced by the industry were discussed during the meeting. PM Modi has also stated that a special committee will be set up to address the issues.
