Recently, a certain Mr Santiago Lopez who is a florist living in Argentina, named a royal blue rose ‘Lata’ after legendary singer and national icon Lata Mangeshkar. The 89-year-old shared a photo of the rose on Twitter and said that she was ‘deeply touched’.

“Namaskaar, I was deeply touched by this, so sharing it with you all. Mr. Santiago Lopez, living in Argentina and Spanish by birth, is my fan and a florist by profession. He has named this flower Lata. He has also taken to learning Sanskrit, Hindi and Yoga. Humbled and grateful,” Mangeshkar wrote on the micro-blogging site.

This is not the first time, however, that a species of flower or some other living entity has been named after a Bollywood celebrity. For instance, MSN reports that there’s a species of Tulip in Holland which shares its name with the world’s most beautiful woman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

This year, a baby rhinoceros was named ‘Dia’ in honour of actress and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza. “Thank you @OlPejeta for naming this beautiful baby after me!!! It means the world to me. Thank you Richard, Hamid, Sarah, Elodie, Yaqoob and team for this privilege 🙏🏻🦏 Visit #OlPejetaConservancy, take a pic with Dia and tag me! Win for the wild with @airarabiagroup,” Mirza had tweeted.

The waterfall near about the road connecting Chungthang to Yumthang Valley in North Sikkim is also reportedly named after Amitabh Bachchan. There’s also an orchid flower in Singapore which is named ‘Dendrobium Amitabh Bachchan’, reports MSN.

We all know about the great Yash Chopra’s obsession with Switzerland. Hence, it came as no surprise when a famed spot in the country was named ‘Chopra Lake’.
