Every 90s Kid Will Remember These Songs From Subhash Ghai Movies
Subhash Ghai may have delivered a string of flops after Taal, but we always think a Bollywood personality should be remembered (at least on his birthday) for his good work rather than his bad. From the things we liked about him (apart from his special appearances), the music of his films takes the numero uno spot. As 90s kids, we all remember humming to his songs, and he was known for delivering hits after hits.
For every Kisna and Yaadein, there is a Pardes and Taal. “When a director gives 12 continuous hits and makes each movie such that it can truly be remembered for years to come, then I will believe that I truly have competition,” Ghai was quoted as saying by YourStory.
Being the veteran that he is, there’s also plenty of things to learn from the showman. “Everybody wants to achieve everything in a very short span of time because the competition is high. I would always advise the young minds to think long-term; never ever go for a short-term success plan. Wait for it. Success kahi bhaagi nahi jaa rahi hai, marne se pehle aani chhaiye woh important hai. Never compare yourself to other’s successes; never look down on yourself and never look up to anyone. You are what you are and what you create of yourself. You are the only person who can make it or destroy it,” he said in an interview with Firstpost.
Having started as an actor, Ghai directed his first film Kalicharan (starring Shatrughan Sinha) which released in 1976. He is also responsible for discovering and launching the inimitable Jackie Shroff through Hero. An FTII alumnus, Ghai now has his own film school called Whistling Woods.
Also, there’s an interesting fact that we are sure you haven’t heard before. The superbly popular (and foot-tapping) Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire, owes its success to Subhash Ghai. It was he who suggested AR Rahman to use the words ‘Jai Ho’ in a song since it had a positive vibe.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at some of his most evergreen songs.
