Based on the raging issue of counterfeiting, the makers of The Family Man decided to make a web series on it— Farzi. And just like their previous offering, this show is also packed with powerful performances and riveting sequences with actors like Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, and Kay Kay Menon in lead roles.
The 8-episode show makes for fun binge-watch, and the narrative revolves around the life of Sunny (Kapoor) who decides to make counterfeit money. While he tried hard to keep the revolutionary journal of his grandfather Kranti Patrika up, things didn’t really work out in his favor. However, he managed to do a neat job with the currency business and gets the attention of a counterfeit king played by Menon. Sunny soon gets involved and entangled in the world of crime, and there clearly seems to be no looking back.
The series is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and fans have been heaping praises on this one. Here’s taking a look at them:
Directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, Farzi features a diverse range of actors from across the country, much like The Family Man. The director-duo believe that a lot has changed over the years in showbiz. “We still fight and do the same things we did when we started. The only difference is we have good writing companions like Sita Menon and Suman Kumar — the four of us co-wrote Farzi. We have good camaraderie and know each other’s styles. We are able to write a lot more because of that,” says Nidimouru. To this DK adds, “It’s become a more collaborative, inclusive process. It’s important especially when you make a series. You need more people. You need what they call a writers’ room. There are four of us, who are the lead writers. Then, there are assistant writers who are also part of the writers’ room. It’s a good setup.”
On the other hand, Kapoor expressed his excitement about working with Sethupathi, a powerhouse of talent from the south. “Our tracks run parallel to each other. The audience gets to see us constantly. But we didn’t get to cross paths too many times. I would love to work more with [Vijay]. I love him as an actor. I come from a background where acting comes before stardom. I can see that it’s the same for him. Where he goes, stardom follows. But his heart is in the acting. He always looks to do different roles. That comes from the hunger of an artist,” he concludes.
