Chrissy Teigen, Twitter’s ‘Unofficial Mayor’, Says Goodbye To The Platform
Chrissy Teigen is, without a doubt, the most entertaining and witty star on Twitter. The company itself once called her the ‘mayor of Twitter’ and we can agree to that because her online rants, although quite random, were quite amusing. The prolific tweeter’s feed was all about her unapologetic opinions and adorable family pictures, but sadly, we won’t get to see it anymore. The celebrity chef has quit the social media platform because of the negativity that she has been receiving from online bullies all these years.
In a series of tweets, Teigen said that the platform “no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.” She used to share everything with her 13.7 million followers that she gained during her decade long witty presence on Twitter. From her cooking projects to the personal challenges in her life, including the miscarriage that she suffered last October, Teigen documented everything to keep her fans updated. But all the negativity and criticism that came along with it was too much to handle for her, and hence she decided to call it quits.
Before deleting her account, Teigen penned down her thoughts on why she is quitting the platform. Excerpts of the statement read, “Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends. But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”
She added, “My life goal is to make people happy. The pain I feel when I don’t is too much for me. I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not. My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters.” She also stated that she does not want to blame Twitter for all the negativity that prevails on their platform.
