Imtiaz Ali has been a gift to the Bollywood film industry. He has given us impressive movies like Jab We Met, Highway, Tamasha, Rockstar and Love Aaj Kal. Now, entertainment website Filmfare reports that the director is planning a biopic on actress Madhubala’s life.

Begum Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavi, who took the stage name Madhubala is one of the most iconic actresses to have starred in Hindi cinema. Known as the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood for her similar looks, the actress starred in blockbuster films like Mahal, Mr. & Mrs. ’55 and Mughal-e-Azam.

The actress succumbed to a prolonged illness at the age of 36.

The entertainment website further reports that the filmmaker has recently acquired the rights to make a biopic on Madhubala’s life and that it could either be a film or a web-series.

“The biopic will cover all the aspects of the actress’ life, from her debut as a child artist in Basant to her big break in Neel Kamal opposite Raj Kapoor. Imtiaz Ali has made sure that there is no scope for any hindrances in making the biopic by acquiring a Life Story Rights Assignment Agreement from her family,” the report goes on to say.
