A man broke into Eminem’s house in Detroit and allegedly told the rapper that he was “there to kill him.”
Matthew Hughes, 26, was caught on camera, sneaking around Eminem’s property, before using a stone to break the back window to enter inside. The alarm system immediately went off, which woke up Eminem and brought him face to face with Hughes. By the time, security broke in through the door and detained Hughes after they heard the alarms.
Hughes appeared in court yesterday, and a courtroom reporter revealed that Eminem told a police officer that Hughes made it clear he was there to kill him.
Court. Eminem news. “Mr. Mathers (Eminem)
said Matthew Hughes told him he was there to kill him.” Detective said that’s what Eminem told him after his home was broken into in April. Hughes pictured faces felony charges. Journalist Nick Perreault also tweeted that Eminem was not present during the hearing and that Hughes is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.
Eminem was not in court today. Bond remains $50,000 cash surety for Mr. Hughes. Investigation showed a window was broken, Mathers security team responded. At first Mathers thought Hughes was his nephew, but it was dark & Mathers soon realized he did not know the man in his home.

Hughes is seemingly obsessed with the rapper, and was caught breaking into two other properties last year that he believed to be owned by the rapper. He was subsequently sentenced to 90 days in jail and was ordered to pay $1,400 in fines.
Hughes is currently being held on a $50,000 bond and is set to reappear for his next hearing on September 28.
