It was an incredibly sad moment for the entire Bollywood fraternity when Sri Devi passed away, and it was gratifying to an extent to see the Academy pay tribute to her in their ‘In Memoriam’ tribute.

Almost everyone from the country expressed their sadness, including the most important person, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace,” he said.

We also saw the loss of Shashi Kapoor this year. Out of all the tributes that poured in for him, the one by Amitabh Bachchan stands out as the most emotional.

“He had been ailing  .. somewhere he had let himself go after the passing away of his dear wife Jennifer .. I had visited him on occasion in Hospital during some of the times he had been hospitalised earlier .. but I never went to see him again .. I would never have .. I never ever wanted to see this beautiful friend and ‘samdhi’ in the state I saw him in hospital …. and I did not today, when they informed me that he had gone …,” wrote Bachchan

That said, the tribute by the Academy Awards is also heartwarming considering it’s on an international stage.
