Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot is all set to team up with director Patty Jenkins to play Cleopatra in a period biographical drama scripted by Laeta Kalogridis.

“I love embarking on new journeys, I love the excitement of new projects, the thrill of bringing new stories to life. Cleopatra is a story I wanted to tell for a very long time. Can’t be more grateful about this A team,” Gadot tweeted.

Deadline reports that the film was Gadot’s idea. However, Twitter is unsure of how to take this news of an Israeli actress playing an Egyptian ruler.

Many believed that a woman of colour should have gotten the role and many also brought in Gadot’s support of Israel in its war against Palestine.

Cleopatra was a descendant of Ptolemy I, a Macedonian Greek who established himself as king of Egypt after the death of his companion Alexander the Great. Actresses who’ve played Cleopatra in the past have included the likes of Claudette Colbert, Vivien Leigh, and Elizabeth Taylor.
