After the critically-acclaimed The Lunchbox, Ritesh Batra is to direct an adaptation of Julian Barnes’ The Sense of an Ending, according to an exclusive report in The Hollywood Reporter. Jim Broadbent, the much-loved English actor, will essay the role of Tony Webster, who is forced to deal with his personal relationships (and himself) in a new light, after being presented with a mysterious legacy.
FilmNation and BBC films will co-finance the project, to be adapted into a screenplay by playwright Nick Payne. This is a major win for Batra, considering that he only has one film on his CV, and that the subject doesn’t have any South Asian links – it’s about as Anglo-Saxon as you can get.
