It’s been a mind-blowing past couple of years for the Marvel movie universe fandom as this year ends on a high with Thor Ragnarok hitting the theatres this weekend! And in case you couldn’t binge watch the prequels to the latest iteration of Chris Hemsworth’s hot God of Thunder’s inter-galactic adventures, we’ve got you covered.

(Oh BTW, he also gets a haircut in the movie in case you didn’t notice already)

Here’s all the revision you need before putting your bums on the seats for the action-packed drama that features some new characters and a few of our favourite ones as well.

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN ANY OF THE THOR (OR AVENGERS) MOVIES YET, PLEASE GO AWAY OR PREPARE TO GET SPOILLLEEEDD!

Thor

The last movie (Thor: The Dark World) has Thor finally overcome the threat from the Dark Elf Malekith as he prepares to unleash the powers of his secret weapon called The Aether on the Nine Realms. He also relinquishes the claim to the throne offered by Odin at the end of the movie.

Thor was next seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron two years after this movie. He helps his superhero squad to prevent apocalyptic events by breathing life into the AI that’s been causing mayhem on Earth. He is seen returning to Asgard to find out more about the forces behind these events.

Loki

Thor’s brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is tried on the Earth for causing destruction on the planet in precedence to the second Thor movie. While avenging their mother’s death, Loki is also seen dying in the arms of his brother Thor, who promises to not let it go to vain.

Odin

The father of Thor and Loki, Odin unsurprisingly gets into a conflict with the former in this movie as well. This time it’s Thor’s love interest Jane Foster whose presence he disapproves of on Asgard. But he soon recognises the Aether that she embodies and its dangers to the planet. By the end of the movie though, Odin offers Thor to take the throne which he declines.

But Odin is then seen transforming into Loki, indicating the fact that the God of Mischief has sent Odin packing to some other planet (mostly Earth) and has fulfilled his wish of occupying the throne.

Jane Foster

The long distance relationship for the duo hasn’t worked out well. Played by Natalie Portman, Dr Foster wasn’t seen in the last Avengers movie and in all probability won’t appear in any of the coming ones either. Yes, they’ve broken up!

Hela

The principal antagonist Hela is played in Thor Ragnarok by Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, who is Odin’s first-born child. Odin is believed to have exiled her due to her penchant for violence. And you’d know why we’re afraid of her if you’ve seen her shred Thor’s hammer (yes!) to pieces in the trailer.

It’s been two years since the battle of Sokovia and our green-skinned hot-headed child-faced action hero has landed in a garbage planet called Sakaar, where one of the Universe’s Elders called the Grandmaster hosts gladiator competitions. He is the reigning champion of the battleground, where he encounters Thor as he crash lands from the Bifrost Bridge.

New introductions

After Jane Foster’s exit, Thor Ragnarok will introduce 142, one of the last surviving Valkyrie warriors who died defending peace against Hela many years ago. She will first be seen fighting against Thor only to side with him eventually.

There’s also a bunch of other gladiators who, led by other ‘gladiators’ Korg (played himself by the Kiwi director Taika Waititi, of The Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do In The Shadows) and Miek, fight alongside Thor against Hela. Then there’s also the fire demon Surtur with Benedict Cumberbatch in his Dr Strange avatar also making a brief cameo appearance.

So there you are, all set for Thor Ragnarok! Let us know how you liked the movie in the comments section. Happy viewing!
