The legendary manager will end his 22-year career at the club at the end of the season. He won three Premier Leagues and seven FA cups

Arsenal’s veteran manager Arsene Wenger has announced that this season will be his last at the helm of the Gunners. He holds the current record for most games managed in the Premier League, with 823 games.

Wenger’s future at the club has been under a cloud as Arsenal look set to finish in sixth place in the league, missing out on Champions League football for the second season in a row. Up till that point, he had guided the team to a top-four finish in every season managed the club.

In a statement, Wenger said, “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. To all the Arsenal lovers, take care of the values of the club.”

Wenger will be remembered for his preference for an attacking, attractive style of play, which won the team fans around the world even as it trailed behind its rivals in terms of silverware in the second half of his tenure. The supreme manifestation of his tactical philosophy was the ‘Invincibles’ team of the 2003/04 season, which became the first English team to go undefeated in the top-flight league since 1888-89.

His is also noted for the consistency with which he delivered performance, even as the club spent far less than its rivals in the aftermath of the construction of the £390 million Emirates Stadium.
