A juicy beef burger with crispy bacon, fried egg and fries? Churchill’s famous King Solomon Steak and the Hash pepper steak with mushroom sauce and bacon salad? Meatball subs? Beef Biryani? Beef seekh kebabs with pav at some roadside shack in Santacruz? Well, say goodbye because you are going to be sorely missing all of these delicacies soon.
President Pranab Mukherjee gave his nod to a long pending campaign of banning beef in Maharashtra. His assent has brought into practice the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 1995, that bans the slaughter of bulls and bullocks, which was previously allowed based on a fit-for-slaughter certificate. However, water buffaloes will be allowed, which is mostly seen as inferior quality meat.
