This here is the Ferrari 488 GTB, the latest in a long and glorious lineup of cars from the legendary Italian company. That in itself is reason enough to celebrate, but it’s not like the car is a bit lacking in character – and it’s a revolutionary step forward, as you’ll see. First off, the 488 looks stunning – lashings of lust, dollops of pure sex and enough sharp lines to make your eyes bleed. It’s a step up in design terms over its predecessor, the not-ugly 458, and in this shade of red, it’ll be a guaranteed showstopper.
Being a Ferrari, the engine is a little on the powerful side of things, and here’s where the ‘revolutionary’ bit comes in – the 3.9-litre V8 will be turbocharged. It’s not like there haven’t been turbocharged Ferraris before this, but the company has religiously stayed away from turbocharging its street cars, in general, mainly because its naturally aspirated engines have sounded way better and have offered instantaneous throttle response. New environmental norms have forced Ferrari’s hand, however, but it claims that the 661 bhp/77.5 kgm engine will offer the same aural and performance thrills as any of its non-turbo engines. Nobody has ever described a Ferrari as ‘slow’, and the 488 will be pretty brisk – 0-100 kph in 3 seconds, 0-200 kph in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 328 kph. Best of all, it will be available in India, so you can set in motion a plan to wreck your trust fund.
