Elon Musk recently took back the title of the world’s richest man. And if that was not enough, he just became richer, record-breakingly so.
Musk’s net worth jumped to $288.6 billion Monday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The $36.2 billion (₹2.71 lakh crore) gain followed a surge in Tesla Inc.’s stock price after Hertz Global Holdings Inc. ordered 100,000 cars.
It’s the biggest one-day gain in the history of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, surpassing Chinese tycoon Zhong Shanshan’s $32 billion surge last year when his bottled-water company, Nongfu Spring Co., went public.
This is only one of the many milestones Musk has celebrated of late. Tesla Inc. joined an elite group of companies with market values of at least $1 trillion on Monday, which was another key milestone for the Musk-led carmaker whose shares have been on a tear amid a global shift to electric vehicles.
