Farhan Akhtar and Shah Rukh Khan have combined once again to give us a rousing anthem (Chulein Aasmaan) with a message to stop violence against women, this Women’s Day. The campaign is called #BasAbBahutHoGaya and is made by MARD and Population Foundation of India. Other than SRK and Farhan, celebrities like Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Shabana Azmi and Varun Dhawan too feature in the video.

“Jiski aankhon mein hai,
jaisi gehri sharafat ki ek roshni,
Jiske dil mein bhi,
aur jiske baaton mein bhi,
aurat ke vaastey puri izzat bhi hai,
aur puri aadar bhi,
Woh jo ek aurat ka sachcha saathi hai,
ek dost hai,
ek humdard hai,
Sach toh ye hai,
Wohi mard hai,” reads SRK at the beginning of the song, which is followed by the Chulein Aasman anthem.
The anthem raises light to the fact that women are never responsible for the violence inflicted on them, and they should not be guilty if such a thing happens. It’s always the perpetrator at fault. There is a mentality which is prevalent where people think that if a woman goes out in the night or wears short clothes, she is sending an invitation for such crimes. This is the attitude that needs to be fought.
It also highlights the problem of female foeticide, because of which 330,000 girls are not even born because of their gender. This, in a country, which has produced multiple grand slam winning player like a Sania Mirza. Her father says in the video, “Being recognized as Sania Mirza’s father is one of the greatest thrills of my life. There cannot be a prouder moment for a father, where you are known for the brilliant work your child has done.”
Another shocking statistic that we see in the video is that 52% of Indian women think that it is okay to be beaten by their husbands.
