Menswear has quickly developed itself into a face-paced scene in India where designers, stalwart and new alike, are continually striving to make it a successful playground for men to have more options in what they wear and how they look. And it’s definitely working. With menswear central fashion weeks, more designers putting in money on fashion for men and other avenues opening up, things are looking up for the world of fashion.

Along with making the space a success, the designers are also bringing elements in their designs that you wouldn’t normally see on the average Indian man. Things like skirt-like kurtas, dhoti-pants and other things are making all the noise and news on the forefront offline and online. However, what’s gotten us talking is the fact that velvet is now the hottest trend that every Indian designer is banking on this festive season. The quantity differs from one designer to the other. You’ve got Rohit Bal’s embroidered velvet bandghalas and then you’ve got JJ Vallaya’s subtle Indian waistcoat in velvet (donned by none other than Ashish N Soni).

More designers like Manish Malhotra and Sunil Mehra are incoporating the fabric which goes to show how popular it is this festive season. As a bonus, menswear chain store Manyavar, also seems to have caught on to the trend because Virat Kohli’s velvet suit is dapper and how.
