For the first time, the Pantone colour of the year is a blend of two – Rose Quartz and Serenity. Pantone’s official website explains that when the two shades combine, they “demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace”.
Over the years, Pantone shades have had a strong influence over colour trends followed by major fashion houses as well as mass-oriented brands, but have largely been followed by women. Now, the perception seems to be changing. The post elaborates, “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”
Here are our top suggestions for incorporating Rose Quartz and/or Serenity in your wardrobe.

A solid sweater
There are some hideous argyle sweaters out there that use pink and blue together, but you’re better off steering clear. Pair a solid sweater or cardigan with a pair of jeans or chinos for everyday casuals done right.

Shoes and bags
Pink might be a bit of a stretch, but with a little care (read: avoid clothing in anything but neutral shades like black, white and grey), you should be able to pull off baby blue shoes like a pro. Similar rules apply to carrying bags. Satchels, briefcases and laptop bags are best left conventional. What does work, however, is a backpack.

Trousers
The possibilities are endless. Solid shirts, micro prints, neutral polos… they’re all fine. Just stick with black or brown shoes and/or belts to avoid looking too colourful.

Tie
If you aren’t feeling too experimental, get your hands on an embroidered tie in either shade, or better still, both!
