Alessandro Michele’s Gucci Spring Summer 2016 showing isn’t quite what you’d have expected. Christened ‘Détournement’, it featured lots of effeminate elements that the designer hoped for his audience to recontextualise in a masculine space.
So there were men in the most ordinary silhouettes – biker jackets, printed suits or straight-cut pants. But the twist came with the addition of elements like pussy bows, crochet and fur cuffs, floral accoutrements and ruffled collars. Granny chic, anyone?
To their credit, most models – thankfully young enough to pull off the experiment – looked fairly at ease in their dazzling gold shoes, and even made most of the clothing work. That should be inspiration enough for you to rethink your (mostly) staid wardrobe.
