2023 Hyundai Kona Electric Specs Revealed

Hyundai has unveiled the new-generation Kona for 2023, with three different powertrains – petrol, petrol-hybrid and the all-electric variant.

Unlike most manufacturers, Hyundai will also offer trim-specific design elements to the consumer. This includes different inserts on the grille, changed alloy wheels and even a revised rear bumper!

The overall design itself has seen some updates, with the Kona featuring a more futuristic rounded-off design, with smooth lines all over its body.

The front of the new Kona now features a strap of DRLs running across the width, with the headlight unit placed lower than before. The rear too features a similar design approach with a line of LED DRLs running across the bonnet’s width.

Dimensions have gone up too (at 4,355mm) along with the wheelbase (60mm more) resulting in a more spacious cabin, similar to the Ioniq 5’s layout.

Hyundai now calls the cabin a ‘living space’ with dual 12.3-inch screens being your primary source of entertainment.

Hyundai will offer the Kona EV in two trims - Standard Range and Long Range, the former will get a 48.4kWh pack (155pS/250Nm) while the latter gets a bigger 65.4kWh pack (218PS/255Nm). This is a healthy increase over the 39.2kWh battery pack of the Indian variant.

While Hyundai is yet to confirm the exact figures, reports suggest that the long range model will offer a WLPT rang of 490km, with recharge time of 10 to 80 per cent in 41 minutes with a fast charger.

Additionally, the Kona EV will offer feature such as one-pedal drive system, vehicle-to-vehicle load feature, keyless entry, eight-speaker Bose Premium Sound System, powered tailgate and more.

There’s also an N Line variant in the works which will come with the petrol-only powertrain and sport more aggressive cosmetics than the standard model.

We’re not sure if Hyundai will launch the Kona is planning on bringing the updated Kona here. If it does, it’ll likely cost a premium over its current price of 23.84 lakh (ex-showroom).
