Going from a chubby teen to one of Bollywood's biggest heartthrobs isn't easy. Kapoor, who turned 37 this Sunday, has been continuing to make progress on the fitness front, long after turning heads with his 2012 debut, Ishaqzaade.

Early Career: Before breaking into Bollywood, Kapoor spent several years working as an assistant director on a variety of films in the 2000s. During his early 20s, he reportedly weighed 130 kilos, and only wore plus-sized brands. After being encouraged to train by Salman Khan, Kapoor managed to get fit enough to become a Bollywood leading man.

First Tryst With Fitness Determined to make it into films, Kapoor trained hard enough to drop 50 kilos in three years. “It’s  been a tough journey for me ever since I was a kid when it comes to my  battle with obesity," he wrote back in 2019. "Everyone has their own struggles, I have had and continue to have mine."

Bulking Up For 'Gunday' Kapoor's biggest hits took place in the mid-2010s, with films such as Gunday and 2 States. During this time, Kapoor stuck to a 5-day-a-week routine that saw him spend upto ninety minutes per day in the gym, aiming to match co-star Ranveer Singh's famous physique. The result was an absolutely shredded look after dropping 10 kilos, which he toned down somewhat for 2 States.

Prep for Panipat The latter half of the 2010s saw a career slump for Kapoor, although he worked hard to develop his biggest frame yet for 2019's Panipat. Training with celeb fitness expert Shivoham AKA Dheepesh Bhatt, Kapoor packed on the most muscle he's ever had for the role, which required plenty of physical demands such as stuntwork, action scenes, and even horseriding.

Pandemic Weight Gain Along with the 2020 Pandemic, Kapoor took a back seat from films, and seemingly put on some weight during his off-time. While he did not work on any film projects during these months, he did sign up for comedy Sardar Ka Grandson, and largely stayed out of the spotlight.

Return To Form In 2021, Kapoor resolved to get back in shape and start acting in earnest - hiring the skills of World Kickboxing Champion, Drew Neal. This time, he put extra attention on his diet, stating that he had "changed [his] meal pattern completely." Set on a 15-month course for correction, Kapoor massively upgraded his body, sharing some stunning progress photographs on Instagram back in May '22.
